The Gathering Place, a Cleveland based not for profit, seeks a Volunteer Services Manager to oversee recruiting, training and managing volunteers to support the organization and those on their cancer journey in Northeast Ohio.  The Gathering Place is a caring community that supports, educates and empowers individuals and families touched by cancer.  All programs are delivered free of charge through the generosity of donors and supporters.

The Volunteer Services Manager plays a critical role in the overall success of the agency and reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The Westside Volunteer Coordinator / Office Manager will report to this position.

Volunteer Services Manager duties and responsibilities

  • Source and recruit volunteers with a variety of skill sets – administrative, clinical and other
  • Identify with the staffing needs, qualifications and skills to fill volunteer positions
  • Arrange for volunteer training
  • Manage scheduling of volunteers to fill requested positions, including special events such as Race for the Place
  • Assign responsibilities as appropriate
  • Communicate frequently with volunteers – including a regular 4-6 week check in with volunteers
  • Ensure volunteers are satisfied by creating a healthy working environment
  • Keep and manage records of volunteers’ contact information, availability, preferences
  • Track volunteer hours worked along with number of times request is denied by volunteer
  • Evaluate volunteers behavior and work quality
  • Give constructive feedback
  • Plan and implement annual Volunteer Appreciation Event
  • Provide support to the CEO in an administrative capacity
  • Maintain confidently in all agency dealings
  • Other duties as assigned

Volunteer Coordinator requirements and qualifications

  • Proven experience as Volunteer Services Manager or similar role
  • 5 years of experience in volunteering
  • 5 years of experience in sourcing and recruiting
  • Some knowledge in Employer Branding and Recruitment Marketing
  • Strong knowledge of databases and MS Office (especially Excel)
  • Experience using HR and recruiting tools
  • Strong Team player
  • Good time-management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Eager to step in and assist where needed
  • BS/BA or Advanced Degree in business administration, human resources, social work or relevant field

Physical requirements

  • This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and some light work and lifting requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds occasionally; work requires sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, standing, fingering, grasping and repetitive motions; vocal communication; hearing, and visual acuity. Employee is not subject to adverse environmental factors.
