To Serve or Not to Serve… That is the question. Or perhaps the question is whether or not you think you can serve. Board service is something most professionals have heard of, but how many of us know what it really means, or how to find the right board?
BVU was founded on the belief that connecting the Time, Talent, and Treasure of the business community is critical to the success of the nonprofit sector. We make thoughtful matches to connect people with organizations whose missions they believe in and who need their help. But is board service right for you?
Consider the following questions:
đź’Ş Do I have professional skills to share?Â
đź’— Do I care about my community?Â
🌱 Do I want to grow professionally?Â
🔍 Do I want to expand my network?Â
If you answered yes, congrats! Board service is worth looking into. The following resources provide a great introduction.
What is a nonprofit board?Â
“Board members are the fiduciaries who steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by making sure the nonprofit has adequate resources to advance its mission.” (National Council of Nonprofits)
Why serve on a nonprofit board?Â
“Individuals who serve on a board have the opportunity to cultivate new skill sets as leaders.” (BoardSource)
