May Nonprofit News: Where are the volunteers?
Northeast Ohio nonprofits are struggling to recruit volunteers.
Volunteerism in the United States has been decreasing steadily for the last decade, with the most significant drop seen between 2019 to 2021. However, 69% of individuals who volunteered in 2022 want to volunteer more hours and/or with more organizations in 2023.
Volunteers in Ohio are incredibly valuable, contributing billions of dollars annually to the Ohio economy. The value of a single volunteer hour in Ohio increased by almost eight percent in recent years and now stands at $29.17. Yet, Ohio is among the states with the largest drop in volunteerism.
