Brian Broadbent

President and Chief Executive Officer

Brian assists business clients in developing and implementing strategies to improve their community involvement. He also provides succession and executive transition planning, merger consulting and training services to nonprofits, as well as leads BVU. Brian serves on the boards of The City Mission, Youth Opportunities Unlimited, St. Edward High School and the Commission for Economic Inclusion. A Cleveland native, he graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a degree in Accounting and became a CPA in 1980.

Ann Cancelliere

Coordinator, Community Engagement

As Coordinator of the Volunteer Center, Ann provides administrative support to the Volunteer Center at BVU by assisting nonprofits in promoting volunteer opportunities online; linking individuals and community groups to volunteer opportunities at nonprofits throughout Northeast Ohio. She serves on the Board at Incarnate Word Academy where she previously volunteered on various committees as well as several committees at Saint Ignatius High School.

Sarah Castle

Senior Coordinator, Leadership Development

Sarah supports BVU’s Pro Bono Consulting programs and Board Matching teams and provides overall administrative help as needed. Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts in Event Planning and Tourism with a minor in Italian from Bowling Green State University.

Julie Clark

Managing Director, Leadership Development

Julie provides guidance and consulting to nonprofit board and staff in the areas of governance/board development, succession planning, strategic planning, and organizational capacity assessments. For more than 10 years, she led BVU’s board matching program, where she prepared, trained, and matched business professionals to nonprofit board opportunities. She serves as President of the Board of The Treehouse Ohio and as Secretary of the Board of South Suburban Montessori School. Julie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Baldwin-Wallace College and a Master of Arts in Communications Management from John Carroll University.

Heather Englander

Director, Community Engagement

Heather refers direct service volunteers from businesses and the community-at-large to assist nonprofit organizations with short term or long term volunteer projects. Her past experience includes over 10 years of project management, design, and event planning. Heather has a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the College of Wooster and served as an AmeriCorps volunteer for two years with Habitat for Humanity as a site supervisor and volunteer coordinator. She has a diverse volunteer background and currently serves on the Board of Caring Cubs.

Lauren Gliha

Lauren interviews and refers business executives for positions on nonprofit boards of directors and provides management assistance services to nonprofits. Lauren is currently serving on the Board of The Phillip DeVito Foundation and has previously served on The Centers for Family and Children’s Associate Board. She holds a BSBA in Accounting from John Carroll University.

Mary Hirsch

Coordinator, Administration

Mary works closely with the Vice President of Administration managing finances and human resources for BVU. Mary also provides assistance with preparing materials for BVU’s educational seminars. Mary has been with BVU since 1994 where she began as a Referral Specialist for the Volunteer Center.

Ann Kent

Vice President, Nonprofit Engagement

Ann provides board and organizational development services to nonprofits encompassing the full industry sector. Prior to joining BVU in 1996, Ann was Executive Director of the Center for Prevention of Domestic Violence (nka Domestic Violence & Child Advocacy Center). Ann worked at New Directions, for ten years in multiple clinical and executive positions. She was on the faculty of The Music Settlement as a board-certified music therapist for several years. Ann serves as Vice Chair and Chair of the Governance Committee of the board of the Ohio Buckeye Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, as well as varied national work teams. She is an Advisory Board Member of the Foundation Center Midwest. Ann earned an MBA from Cleveland State University and a Bachelor’s of Music from Florida State University.

Allison Kimbrough

Managing Director, Business Engagement

At BVU, Allison is responsible for assisting businesses throughout Northeast Ohio in setting and/or achieving strategies to attract and retain employees, develop employees as leaders, and connect business professionals facilitating relationship development to promote potential business opportunities.  Prior to joining BVU, she worked in sales and marketing roles at various organizations including the International Exposition (I-X) Center, Legends Sales & Marketing, United Way of Greater Lorain County, the Cleveland Browns, and KeyBank.  She holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Toledo and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Bowling Green State University. Allison currently serves on the board for Women in Sports and Events, Cleveland Chapter.

Aaron Marcovy

Director, Business Engagement

Aaron works with businesses to establish and enhance strong community involvement programs and engage employees at all levels in volunteerism. He serves on the boards of The Foundry Rowing and Sailing Center and the Intermuseum Conservation Association, and currently serves as the Head Coach of Rowing at Case Western Reserve University. Aaron previously served on the boards and committees of the Cleveland Lakefront Collaborative, Flats Forward, City Arts Center, and Reduxion Theatre. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University, and completed two years of a doctoral program at the University of Oxford, earning a certification.

Melanie Meyer

Managing Director, Marketing &Technology

Melanie manages BVU’s database, maintains the website, evaluates BVU’s technology use and needs, and recommends and implements technology upgrades. She directs BVU communications, creating marketing materials and coordinating perception studies, survey materials and feedback from BVU’s constituencies.

Denise O'Brien

Vice President, Administration

Denise manages finances, accounting, budgeting, reporting, payroll and human resources for the organization. Denise has been with BVU since inception in 1993 and is part of the senior leadership team. Denise’s education and experience in organizational development and continuous quality improvement began in the hospitality industry. She had fifteen years of hospitality management experience with a strong start-up and pre-opening background with major hotel chains, opening hotels all over the country. She currently serves on the board of Incarnate Word Academy, as well as several volunteer committees.

Alice Schwallie

Coordinator,  Nonprofit Engagement and Data Management

Alice provides technical assistance and support to BVU program staff in the usage of BVU’s database.  She ensures all data is entered correctly, implements process improvements and reports on program outcomes. Her past experience includes over 4 years of volunteer program management.  She serves on the Forum for Volunteer Administrators Board and is a Certified Interpretive Guide with the National Association for Interpretation.  Alice has a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Civilization from the College of Wooster and a Master of Arts in Art History and Museum Studies from Case Western Reserve University.

Tricia Stevenson Khayat

Fellow

Tricia Khayat is a Fellow BVU where she provides guidance and consulting to nonprofit boards and staff members in the areas of succession planning and executive transition. Prior to joining BVU, Tricia spent 20 years working as a consultant and employee of the PolyOne Corporation where she was involved in their training, human resources, and IT functions. She holds an MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Villanova University. Tricia serves on several committees in the Shaker Heights school system.

Kimberly Simpson-Kee

Director, Outreach and Nonprofit Engagement

Kimberly meets with nonprofit organizations to assess how BVU’s services for nonprofits may help each organization further its mission. She helps plan and coordinate educational seminars which train and engage business and nonprofit leaders in the community. Kimberly also connects skill based volunteers to nonprofits within BVU’s Pro Bono Program. Her past experience includes over seven years of healthcare marketing, program development, process improvement and community fundraising.

Elizabeth Voudouris

Executive Vice President

Since 1993, Elizabeth has provided consulting, training and executive coaching services to hundreds of nonprofits. Her work focuses on strengthening the governance and management of nonprofit organizations, facilitating mergers and strategic plans. She provides governance and board leadership training to over 450 individuals annually, and oversees BVU’s Nonprofit Consulting Center. She serves on the Board of the Akron Zoological Park. She has a Bachelor of Arts in History from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and a Master of Arts in History from Kent State University.

Andrea works with business members throughout northeast Ohio to optimize their community involvement and volunteerism, while also heading-up BVU’s Akron office. As a member of BVU’s board matching team, she connects business professionals to nonprofit board opportunities and consults with nonprofit leaders and boards on succession planning. Andrea serves on the Board of Ronald McDonald House Akron, is president of WITAN and chairs the Alpha Delta Pi House Corporation Board at The University of Akron. Andrea holds a Bachelor of Science in American Political Science and a Master of Public Administration from The University of Akron.
