Lorain County Workshop Series

Lorain County Workshop Series with BVU
BVU and the Community Foundation of Lorain County are collaborating to provide 4 capacity-building workshops for Lorain County nonprofit organizations in 2025. Hosted quarterly on Friday mornings, these FREE in-person sessions will address current governance and management issues facing Lorain-area nonprofit board and staff leaders.
Off the Bench, Into the Game: Engaging Your Board in Fundraising
This session will help you move your volunteer leadership from spectators into active game players with your fundraising strategy. Fundraising is a critical part of nonprofit sustainability and your board can be active players with your staff leadership. Board members play a vital role in building relationships and opening doors to new support. This interactive workshop will clarify expectations for board engagement in fundraising, offer practical ways members can contribute based on their comfort and strengths, and help nonprofit leaders foster more productive board-staff collaboration. Whether you’re a board member looking to better understand your role or a staff leader seeking to inspire board involvement, this session will provide real-world strategies, tools, and inspiration.
As the President and CEO of nonprofit consulting firm Just Action Advisors, guest speaker Melanie Shakarian brings more than two decades of experience in philanthropy, communications, and strategic engagement. Melanie is a graduate of Leadership Cleveland and a German Marshall Fund Fellow with a law degree and a certificate in nonprofit management from Case Western Reserve University. Prior to her current role, Melanie was the longtime Director of Development and Communications at The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland.
