Recognizing 2023 Richard W. Pogue
Civic Leadership Award Recipient Bruce Akers
As the Civic Leadership Summit commences, BVU would like to recognize a civic leader who played a crucial role in our story.
Established in 2019, the Richard W. Pogue Civic Leadership Award recognizes an individual who serves as a role model for community engagement, board leadership, volunteerism, philanthropy, and business support of Northeast Ohio’s nonprofit sector. This year, the honor was awarded to longtime business and community leader Bruce H. Akers.
“Bruce was one of BVU’s founders. He has set a beautiful example of a business leader giving back to the community for 60 years – and he continues to do so today,” said Board Chair Deborah Read. “Bruce’s commitment to the people of Greater Cleveland is an inspiration to us all.”
Over thirty years later, BVU continues to fulfill Akers’ vision, helping the entire community make an impact.
