SUMMARY:Nonprofit Seminar Series: Building Your Funding Playbook
DESCRIPTION:[spacer height=”20px”] \nTHIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. \n  \nABOUT THE SESSION \nRaising funds as a nonprofit organization is hard\, tiresome work that oftentimes feels as if you’re reaching out to the same donors and sources time and again. Join us on July 11th for an in-person seminar on the playbook for nonprofit funding\, where you will meet industry-leading experts that specialize in philanthropy\, state and federal appropriations\, tax credit equity and bank financing to learn what tools are available to raise funds for capital projects and programs. Even better\, you’ll learn how all of these funding sources can be woven together to allow your project to be completed on time\, on budget\, and on mission. \nWhen: Thursday\, July 11 | 9:00-10:30am\nWhere: CanalWay Center | 4524 E 49th St\, Cuyahoga Heights\, OH 44125\nCost: Members $25 | Nonmembers $50\n \n[spacer height=”15px”] \nABOUT THE SPEAKERS \nJaros Strategy: Philanthropy \nFor over 35 years\, Susan Jaros has provided exceptional fundraising guidance to more than 60 diverse nonprofit organizations. Susan has designed and executed comprehensive and capital fundraising campaigns\, provided strategic leadership\, and managed day-to-day development and external affairs functions. A Jaros Strategy consultant since 2013\, Julie Conrad brings more than 25 years of communications strategy and expertise to organizations’ fundraising opportunities and challenges. As a former public relations professional\, Julie collaborates with executive directors\, board members\, and development/marketing directors to differentiate organizations’ missions and programs with an eye toward the competitive landscape. \nTogether\, their areas of expertise include integrating fundraising and communications strategies to identify and engage nonprofit organizations’ target audiences\, assessing nonprofit organizations’ readiness to embark on a fundraising campaign\, crafting fundraising campaign strategies and plans\, and providing counsel through fundraising campaign implementation. \nWyncroft Strategies: State and Federal Appropriations \nBlake Springhetti founded Columbus-based government affairs group Wyncroft Strategies in 2018\, with core competencies in executive and legislative lobbying\, political consulting\, appropriations\, and procurement. Springhetti has over a decade of experience as a campaign strategist\, winning dozens of elections across Ohio before joining the Ohio House of Representatives\, most recently serving as Majority Director of Finance. His areas of expertise include Appropriations and Procurement\, Public Affairs and Coalition Building\, Policy and Fiscal Analysis\, and Economic and Infrastructure Development. \nYour CFO Resource: Tax Credit Equity and Bank Financing \nAfter a 13-year career in corporate banking\, Betsy Vuillemot-Figgie founded Your CFO Resource to help bridge the gap in bank negotiations that nonprofit organizations often faced without the leadership support of a formal CFO. Now\, Betsy helps NPOs\, civic-minded developers\, and select for-profit corporations present financing requests using conventional and tax-credit enhanced funding structures and terminology and represents the clients in competitive negotiations with multiple banks. \n  \nABOUT THE SERIES \nBVU’s nonprofit seminars invite our region’s nonprofits to come together for educational and insightful discussions. Past sessions have included Move Your Mission Forward with Story\, Cultivating a Board of Fundraisers\, Intro to Cybersecurity\, Creating LGBTQ+ Inclusive Workplaces\, and more.

SUMMARY:2023 Civic Connections: Corporate Community Engagement Series
DESCRIPTION:[spacer height=”5px”] \nREGISTER FOR THIS SESSION \n[spacer height=”5px”] \nABOUT THE SESSION \nWhen we think of corporate community engagement\, what do we see? Giant volunteer events with hundreds of employees in matching t-shirts? Men in suits presenting big checks at ribbon-cutting ceremonies? Too often\, small businesses get left out of the conversation\, leading many of us to imagine community engagement as something exclusive to big corporations. \nFor September’s “Civic Connections” session\, we are excited to be joined by award-winning civic leader and entrepreneur LaRese Purnell (CLE Consulting Firm) to rewrite this narrative and discuss how businesses of ALL shapes and sizes have the power to make a big community impact.  \nDATE: Tuesday\, September 26\nTIME: 8:00-10:00am\nVENUE: Oswald Centre (Downtown Cleveland)\nCOST: Free for Members\, $50 for Nonmembers \nThe session will be followed by curated table conversations and open networking time to allow attendees to connect with fellow business professionals on the topic. We encourage small business owners\, corporate executives\, budding entrepreneurs\, and everyone in between to attend and share their insights. \n[spacer height=”10px”] \n \n[spacer height=”20px”] \nABOUT THE SPEAKER \n“Giving back has been an essential part LaRese Purnell’s life since childhood. Today\, that message of giving back informs everything Purnell does.” (Greater Cleveland Partnership) \nLaRese Purnell is the Managing Partner of CLE Consulting Firm\, founder of The Real Black Friday (an initiative to support local Black-owned businesses)\, and co-owner of Black Box Fix restaurant. He also serves on a number of nonprofit boards\, including BVU’s! \nFor his leadership and contributions in both the business and nonprofit sectors\, LaRese has been recognized by Crain’s 40 under 40\, Corporate College’s Smart 50\, Cleveland Magazine’s 2021 Most Interesting People\, and The President’s Council’s Excellence in Entrepreneurship 2021. \n[spacer height=”20px”] \nABOUT THE SERIES \nBVU is excited to offer the Civic Connections: Corporate Community Engagement Series annually to highlight current issues in community engagement and corporate social responsibility while providing opportunities for professionals to connect with local experts and fellow businesses. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Crisis Communications and Management for Nonprofits
DESCRIPTION:FREE VIRTUAL SEMINAR\nThursday\, June 15\, 202311:30 am – 1:00 pm \nREGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED. \nIn today’s world\, an organization immersed in crisis or dealing with a hot-button issue can go viral instantaneously\, leaving leaders feeling lost and unprepared as the media demands a response. When it takes a lifetime to build a reputation and only a few seconds to destroy one\, “managing the message” is a critical skill set for nonprofit professionals\, lay leaders\, and their attorneys. \nThis FREE virtual talk by nationally-recognized crisis management and communications specialist Bruce Hennes (CEO\, Hennes Communications) focuses on a highly strategic approach to communicating during a variety of situations\, enabling you to serve the needs of your clients\, employees\, members\, and other stakeholders. \nAs one of the few firms in North America focused exclusively on crisis communications\, Bruce and members of his team have done similar seminars for the National School Boards Association\, the American Bar Association\, Kent State University\, the Ohio Department of Public Safety and NASA as well as for law firms across the continent and scores of high-profile nonprofits that find themselves “on trial in the Court of Public Opinion.” We are beyond excited to bring this educational opportunity to our own nonprofits at no cost. \nBy the end of the event\, attendees will:\n– Gain knowledge and confidence in effectively communicating to protect the organization’s image\, brand and perception in the marketplace\n– Know how to establish and maintain “control of the message”\n– Understand what reporters expect and what is expected of them\n– Learn what to do when attorneys insist on saying “no comment”\n– Understand the benefit of advance preparation for crisis situations and how to create effective action plans for all team members in the organization

Let’s learn how to lower the risk of data breach to protect those assets. \nThis session\, hosted at MAGNET’s new MidTown headquarters\, will feature Tech Impact’s expertise on security trends and emerging threats to nonprofits\, identifying your risks\, and what practical steps you can take to protect your organization from cyber crime and data breach.
